Christmas at First Steps

Here at First Steps we love the magic of Christmas and during December the festive spirit has taken over and the children have been participating in a variety of Christmas activities.

The children in all the groups have been busy making their rooms look festive, decorating Christmas trees and creating some lovely art work for their Christmas displays. Our older children have been enjoying a countdown to Christmas and learning about the nativity story. Every year at First Steps all of the children create a Christmas craft folder to take home that is full of lovely crafts, including Christmas baubles for the tree and lovely photos of the children. We hope you all enjoy looking through the folders with your children.

During December all the children have enjoyed Christmas themed music and movement. The children have had the opportunity to learn some new songs, jingle bells and Rudolph the red nose reindeer are a couple of our favourites. This is a great opportunity for all the age ranges to come together with their peers and use our musical instruments.

The cold and icy weather has also been a great learning opportunity for the children. Outside they have been finding lots of ice and we have been investigating how ice is made. Our preschool children have left some small pots of water out over night and were very excited to see if it would turn into ice by the morning. We have also been practicing our skills at putting on our own coats, pre school parents please ask your child to show you their coat trick.

Some of our preschool children went out on trips this month. They went to Lemur landings and enjoyed a festive build a bear session. This was a fantastic opportunity for the children to gain new experiences they all loved going on the bus and we were very proud of how well they behaved.

We are looking forward to the last week of festivities here at nursery. We would love to see the children in their Christmas outfits and the staff will be joining in too. We would like to take this opportunity to wish all our families a lovely Christmas and New Year.
