Early Years Foundation Stage Statistics

When children are 5, at the end of their reception year in school, an assessment of learning and development is undertaken against the Early Learning Goals. First Steps Nursery is proud to announce our newest data for our 2021/2022 cohort of children… drum roll please…

Practicing numbers in pre-school

76.7% of the children we sent to school reached ALL of their early learning goals. The national average was 65.2%. We are thrilled that the children have thrived in their new education settings and that the foundations of learning we have embedded have enabled them to continue to grow and develop.

At First Steps Nursery and Pre-school, our curriculum focuses on enabling our children to be as school ready as possible. We want the children at First Steps to become sociable, caring and kind, this means we ensure social group times are an integral part of the nursery day. Staff role model excellent relationships, turn taking and guide the children using our golden rules and lots of positive praise. We also want the children to be inquisitive learners and we enable this by providing lots of opportunities for problem solving and access to literacy and mathematics activities. In our preschool rooms, we focus on the children being able to recognise their own names, introduce numbers and shapes, and start the process of writing through a range of mark making opportunities. We also want the children to be as independent as possible so they can succeed in the school environment. Children are given the opportunity to practice independence skills such as putting on their own coats, feeding themselves at meal times and having responsibilities in the room such as garden helpers, serving snacks and tidying up. We are incredibly proud that are children are then demonstrating these skills within their reception classrooms.
