February is a month filled with love, hearts, and a sprinkle of magic at First Steps Nursery in Poole. Our little ones celebrated Valentine's Day with a variety of delightful activities that filled the nursery with laughter and creativity. Here's a peek into the fun-filled Valentine’s week!
Craft Time: Heartfelt Creations
The week started with a burst of creativity as the children engaged in a variety of Valentine’s-themed crafts. Tiny hands got busy with:
- Mark Making Hearts: Using colourful markers and crayons, the children created beautiful heart shapes and designs, expressing their artistic talents.
- Heart Collages: Using coloured paper, glitter, and stickers, the children made vibrant heart collages. Each piece was unique, showcasing their individual artistic expressions.
- Valentine’s Day Cards: The children made heartfelt Valentine’s Day cards, adding personal messages and decorations to share with loved ones.
Messy Play and Sweet Treats
Our little adventurers dived into some exciting and fun activities:
- Pink Jelly Messy Play: With a sensory experience like no other, the children had a blast exploring and playing with pink jelly. The squishy, wobbly texture brought smiles and giggles all around.
- Sensory Valentines tray: The children explored red rice together in a fun activity that supported their social development as they investigated and shared the experience with their friends.
- Decorating Valentine’s Biscuits: The children enjoyed decorating biscuits with pink icing and sprinkles. The excitement was palpable as each child showcased their biscuit-decorating skills.
An Interesting Fact About Valentine's Day
Did you know that the oldest known Valentine’s message was a poem written in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans? He wrote it to his wife while he was imprisoned in the Tower of London. The poem still exists today and is part of the British Library's collection.

This month say hello to Ella, who started working at First Steps as an apprentice back in 2010 and has now worked her way up to Baby Room Leader! Also known as our ‘baby whisperer’ Ella has a knack of getting our babies to sleep whilst at Nursery. Additionally, Ella is also Lauren’s right hand lady in the Holiday Club! Having recently become a home owner, Ella has been busy with interior design in her spare time.
