Halloween Holiday Club

At First Steps Nursery in Oakdale we offer a holiday club for children aged 4-10 years (children must be attending school) and many of the children who come to our holiday club have been part of the First Steps family since they started as babies with us. We are always excited to welcome some new faces too and make sure all the children have a fantastic time with us. Our holiday club aims to provide a fun, exciting and caring environment for the children who attend and we ensure that their day is full of fun activities to keep them busy.

Our October holiday club has just come to an end and we have had a brilliant week. The children arrived at holiday club to find the room decorated for Halloween and they enjoyed having their photos taken on our Halloween back drop using our spooky props. Throughout the week various Halloween themed activities have been available to the children including, chocolate apple making, pumpkin carving, making Halloween trick or treat bags, spooky mask making, lots and lots of craft and our ‘make me a mummy’ competition to name a few.

As the children in our holiday club are growing and learning they often come in with new ideas for activities they want to try and we always listen to their interests and make sure we plan activities around this. This half term a few of the children suggested they wanted a paper aeroplane competition and so they organised this with their peers and had great fun designing and making their aeroplanes before seeing which one could go the furthest.

Time outside is always a key part of our holiday club day, the children have a chance to burn of some energy and get some fresh air. This holiday club the children have enjoyed games of football, tag, and have also had the opportunity to share some garden time with our preschool children where they proved to be fantastic role models. It was lovely to see the older children take care of the younger children and help them by teaching them how to play new games.

We always feel privileged to be able to see the children come back to holiday club, see how much they have grown up and continue to see the families that were once bringing their young babies to our door. Thank you to all the children who attended this week we can’t wait to see you all again at Christmas!
