Remembrance Day
With remembrance Sunday this weekend the children at First Steps Nursery have been learning about why we wear our poppies and completing activities to make their own poppies. Remembrance day is an important day in the calendar and it is very important for children to learn a little about its meaning, even at an early age. This type of learning is a very important part of our personal, social and emotional development and our British Values curriculum as well as helping the children to have a better knowledge and understanding of the world and important events in history.
At nursery we talked to the children about the many important people who helped to keep us safe a long time ago. We said that the poppy flowers help us to remember and say thank you to these special people. We also made our very own special poppies to wear in nursery too and had other activities in nursery to help us to talk and think about Remembrance Day such as making poppy pictures and collages. In our preschool room the children have also watched some short videos which showed us how people will be remembering those special people that kept us safe and also the CBeebies poppy animation.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
Come and see what we have to offer your child at our Nursery and Pre-school in Oakdale, Poole.
