Winter at First Steps

As the evenings and mornings have been getting darker and the colder weather is upon us we have been focusing on the new season of Winter in the nursery. The children have loved being in the garden despite the cold weather and there have been lots of opportunities for new learning. Our first job has been to practice our independence and self-care skills to get ready for garden time, making sure we are wrapped up warm with our coats, hats and gloves. If you have a child in preschool ask them to show you are brilliant coat flip trick we have been practicing to get our coats on independently.

Outside there have been new opportunities to mark make on our friendship hut windows as they frost over in the mornings. The children have enjoyed practicing writing their names and drawing pictures for their friends to see. We even had the opportunity to play outside in the snow this week which for some of our children was the very first time they had seen snow. The children did their best to collect snow in their hands and off surfaces in the garden, this was a great new sensory experience for all our age ranges.

With the winter season also comes our favourite time of the year CHRISTMAS!!!!! Christmas has well and truly begun in the nursery with lots of festive activities taking place. The children have enjoyed some fantastic festive messy trays set up by the practitioners and we have also begun our top secret Christmas craft. All children will come home with some handmade Christmas crafts before our Christmas break and we hope you all love seeing their creations. In the coming weeks the children will continue to have exciting festive activities to participate in.

Over in our preschool room we have been very busy practicing for our school leaver nativity. Our oldest children in the nursery have been singing and learning the story to put on a fantastic show for their parents. We also enjoy watching the children flourish with their confidence as we get on the stage and retell the Christmas story. We can’t wait to welcome our school leaver parents in on the 15th December to show you all of our hard work.

Each year here at First Steps Lauren and Ella put on their magical photoshoots in aid of a charity close to our hearts. This year we have chosen Forest Holmes Hospice and we are so thankful for the donations made so far. We have more slots available for children to have their festive photos to secure your place simply visit our fb post and make a donation.

We are excited for lots more winter and Christmas fun with all the children during December here at First Steps.

If you or anyone you know is looking for a nursery or preschool place where fun is at the heart of everything we do then please contact us for a tour of our warm and friendly Nursery in Oakdale, Poole.
